INNER WAVE ESTRELLA

The five members of Inner Wave go way back. Most of them met at 13-years-old while playing together at church and those early interactions became the building blocks for their current creative endeavours. This Latinx quintet now represents what they didn’t see in the music that they loved growing up, as well as melting cultural references from their hometown of Inglewood, California and their Latin heritage. That’s what we hear through Inner Wave’s new EP, which adds funk and dance into their holographic mix of indie rock, Latin beats, hip hop, and R&B. A stand out track on the EP is ‘Estrella’, a super funky, alt-disco bop that weaves hip-hop wines and indie drums into those retro dance textures. The vocals sink into the background, barely audible, like a song playing at a house party which falls behind the hustle and bustle of the sociable energy. ‘Estrella’ is the opening track for Inner Wave’s WYD EP, so be sure to check out the rest of that here. - Hannah Thacker   [Photo credit: Alondra Buccio]
